Grade 11 students at Shekou International School (SIS) successfully organised the 2024-2025 Collaborative Science Project (CSP) Exhibition under the theme “Sustainable School.” A mandatory component of the IB Diploma Programme, the CSP uses interdisciplinary research to tackle real environmental issues through innovative solutions, where students showcase their scientific literacy and commitment to sustainability.
Projects ranged from turning plastic bottles into uniforms to designing solar charging stations, optimising paper waste, and testing water quality and filtration solutions. Using data-driven research, students proposed impactful changes—one group collaborated with a local company to explore plastic recycling for clothing production, bridging science with real-world application.

Despite challenges such as data collection, failed experiments, and time constraints, students demonstrated resilience, teamwork, and scientific problem-solving. One participant noted, “Science isn’t just about formulas; it’s about having the mindset to solve problems.”
SIS fosters inquiry-based learning through the CSP, encouraging students to apply classroom knowledge—like measuring biodiversity indices—while developing communication, leadership, and reflection skills. “This experience taught me that small actions can drive big change!” one student shared.
Secondary Science Learning Lead, Mr. Winstanley emphasised, “The CSP enables students to collaborate across disciplines to address real-world global challenges.” More than just a science exhibition, this event plants the seeds of sustainability, proving that environmental impact starts with small, meaningful actions.
