The Elective Language Programme offers specialized instruction in English, Chinese, Korean, and Japanese during the school day.
Most families can choose additional language support or enrichment to align with their child’s linguistic needs. For some of our families the school will require their child to take the elective English support in order to grow their English language skills as quickly as possible.

English Language Acquisition (ELA): For students needing accelerated English support to fully engage in school life.

This program is specifically tailored for children who are new to the English language or are in the early stages of learning it. These students require extra English language support lessons to progress their language skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing) quickly. The aim is to enable them to fully access all that an education at ISA Science City offers. ELA lessons are offered as part of the Elective Language Programme from EY4 to Grade 5.During these lessons, experienced teachers use a variety of teaching methods and materials to create an immersive language learning environment. This includes interactive activities, games, and real-life scenarios to help students practice and improve their English skills in a fun and effective way.

English Language & Literature (ELL): This advanced program is designed for children who already have age-appropriate English language skills equivalent to that of a native speaker of the same age and who wish to take their language proficiency to the next level. The focus of ELL is not only on further developing their language skills - particularly speaking, reading comprehension and writing - but also on cultivating critical thinking and academic writing abilities. By engaging in advanced discussions and writing assignments, they develop the skills necessary to express complex ideas clearly and coherently in English. This program aims to help students become fluent and independent users of English, capable of handling academic study and communication in an international context.

These new or novice Chinese language learners aim to master Chinese more rapidly. Teachers use engaging teaching materials and interactive activities to make the learning process enjoyable and effective. Through various language exercises and cultural experiences, students not only improve their Chinese language skills but also gain a deeper understanding of Chinese culture. This helps them build a solid foundation in Chinese and gradually become proficient users of the language.

母语级韩语/日语课程
Native Korean: This elective language option is exclusively for native Korean speakers. It is designed to help them maintain and develop their home language skills at an age-appropriate level in all four functions: speaking, listening, reading and writing. In exceptional cases, a near native speaker may be allowed to join this group if it can be demonstrated that they can keep pace with the content of the lessons alongside the native language children.
母语级韩语课程：这个选修语言选项专为韩语母语者设计。其目的是帮助他们在说、听、读、写四个方面保持和发展与年龄相符的母语水平。在特殊情况下，如果能够证明其能跟上课程内容且与母语学生一起学习，接近母语水平的学生也可加入该班级。
Native Japanese: This elective language choice is specifically for native Japanese speakers. It focuses on maintaining and developing their home language skills at an age-appropriate level in all four functions: speaking, listening, reading and writing. Similar to the Korean program, in exceptional circumstances, a near native speaker may be admitted if they can demonstrate the ability to keep up with the lessons alongside native language peers.

Students attend 4 x 45-minute elective lessons weekly, seamlessly integrated into their 2025–26 timetable alongside core subjects like English, Chinese,Maths, UOI, Visual Arts, Music, Performing Arts and PSPE.
