On 14 March, in celebration of Global π Day, Shekou International School (SIS) once again ignited the excitement of mathematics with the highly anticipated Math Hunger Games! This annual tradition brought together students from Grade 6 to Grade 12, each representing one of the four Mentor Group elements — Fire, Water, Earth, and Metal — as they stepped into the Math Arena to compete for glory.
With the clock ticking, the participating Geckos raced against time to tackle a series of challenging math questions, including quick mental arithmetic, equation solving, and calculus. As the competition heated up, players pushed their limits to solve complex math problems and navigate unexpected twists.
Meanwhile, the audience played a crucial role, enthusiastically participating in Gimkit challenges to raise virtual funds, with the highest earners securing wildcards to support their team’s contestants.
In a dramatic showdown, Grade 10 Janis W. clinched victory at the last moment, securing Team Water’s championship and earning the prestigious “Math Hunger Games Winner” title!
According to Mr. Kamel, the competition leader, this much-anticipated event not only sparks students’ enthusiasm for mathematics but also fosters a spirit of competition and collaboration, enhances problem-solving skills, and makes learning math both engaging and dynamic.
The SIS Math Hunger Games continue to inspire a love for mathematics, cultivate an innovative academic atmosphere, and enrich the school’s campus culture.
