‘The autumn window is still penetrated by the reading lamp, the ink shadow shakes the wind and the words are clear.’ The time is getting deeper and deeper, but the light of wisdom is getting brighter and brighter. On the occasion of this wave of technology, art scholar Professor Zhou jack brought his lecture ‘AI is here, what books are there to read’ to ASJ campus. Using books as boats and art as paddles, he led the students to explore the vastness of the human spirit. From Da Vinci's cross-border philosophical thinking to the deep love of the Museum of Innocence; from the centuries-old transformation of the Monkey King animation to the lonely cry of ‘If heaven's justice is not to be tolerated, I'll reverse the sea’ - this lecture is not only a dialogue with geniuses, but also an opportunity to ask about the heart in the age of AI. This lecture is not only a dialogue with genius, but also a journey of awakening in the age of AI.

Professor Zhou took ‘AI is here, why read books’ as the starting point, emphasising the irreplaceability of art and reading in the midst of the technological wave. Through books and art, human beings can maintain their exploration of self and truth, and resist the dissolution of spirituality by instrumental rationality.

Hosted by Ms Jianing Mo, the lecture ‘Ink Colours and Fragrance’ leads us to the secret of the elegance of a thousand-year old literati room, using a piece of ancient ink as a key. From the natural mineral colours of the stone green ink of the Hundred Dukes of Mercy, to the inches of craftsmanship of the gold outline; from the philosophical thoughts of Wang Yangming's ‘to achieve knowledge through materialism’, to the silent poems of the ink ingots in the shape of the beasts in the vase, the seminar is not only an affectionate look at the traditional craftsmanship, but also a cultural dialogue that spans across the space and time, allowing the silent ink fragrance to rejuvenate itself in the contemporary era. This lecture is not only a deep gaze at traditional craftsmanship, but also a cultural dialogue across time and space, allowing the silent ink to revive the light of the spirit of ‘doing good and doing evil’ in the present day.

Gold tracing, a skill originating from traditional Chinese literati, uses gold and silver as ink and craftsmanship as a pen to outline complex and delicate patterns on the ink ingots. The children held their breath and followed the teacher's example, engraving the shadow of the bird in ‘The Hundred Jewels’ and the philosophical words in ‘The Way of Knowledge’ on the ink surface with a single stroke, and each gold line was telling the ancient wisdom of ‘slow work makes fine work’.

Thank you to Professor Zhou Jack for bringing this philosophical and warm lecture on ‘AI is here, what else to read’! With vivid cases and humourous language, he has narrated the deep meaning of art and reading: from the deep love of fetishism in the Museum of Innocence to the century-long transformation of the Monkey King's animation; from the aphorism of ‘reconstructing the meaning of details’ to the courage of ‘facing the truth of life’. From the aphorism of ‘details reconstruct meaning’ to the courage of ‘facing the truth of life’, every moment of ...... makes us feel the surging power of humanism. You have not only opened up new perspectives on art, but also ignited our love of reading and thinking with the belief that ‘curiosity is life’.

With her profound knowledge and vivid narratives, Ms Mok Ka-ning took us into the smouldering depths of Lingnan culture - from the historical lineage of the ‘Sea Silk Road’ to the flavours of the tongue in the alleyways of the city; from the self-indulgent wisdom of the grassroots to the living inheritance of the traditional crafts. From the history of the ‘Sea Silk Road’ to the flavours of the city's alleyways; from the wisdom of the grassroots' self-entertainment to the living legacy of traditional skills, each div of ...... lets us touch the resilience and temperature of Lingnan culture. You interpret culture with a ‘walking’ attitude, awaken nostalgia with “delicious” details, and teach us to treasure the cultural genes in ordinary life with a ‘popular but not vulgar’ perspective.

It has been more than three years since the public service aesthetics programme was integrated into the ASJ classroom. This practice breaks away from the traditional focus on textbook knowledge and provides a platform for students to unleash their creativity and imagination. Through the practice of art, students are able to freely express their emotions, relieve academic pressure, and achieve physical and mental balance and growth through aesthetic experiences.
