The beginning of the spring has witnessed exciting news! 

Helena Li from FCG received a conditional offer from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich for a Bachelor of Biology, marking a historic moment for the FCG student's first admission to European's highest university!

作为广州斐特思全额奖学金的连续两年获得者，Helena对科学的热爱始终如一，勇敢地说出了自己的梦想：“我想成为一名生物学家。”

As a recipient of full scholarship for two years in FCG, Helena has been enthusiastic about science with a big dream in her heart: she wants to be a biologist.

自幼，Helena便对自然界充满好奇，动物与自然纪录片是她的最爱。“生物学不仅仅是抽象理论的堆砌，它让我见证了生命如何从简单的物质和元素中诞生，演化出复杂多样的生命现象，这令我深深着迷。”

Since Helena was a child, she has had great curiosity about the natural world. Animal and nature documentaries were her favourite.  

“Biology is not simply abstract theories. It leads me to explore how life emerges from simple substances and elements, evolving into complex and diverse biological phenomena, which is fascinating,” Helena said.

进入广州斐特思求学后，Helena的生物学习之旅更加丰富多彩。她参与了海洋生物和生物发光的研究，尤其是生物发光现象，给予她极大的震撼。“看到生命体通过发光与环境互动，我对生命的神奇与多样性有了更深的认识和敬畏。”

After studying in FCG, Helena’s biological study became more colourful. She participated in the research on marine organisms and bioluminescent phenomena, which made a great impression on her. "Seeing the organisms interact with the environment through bioluminescence, I have a deeper understanding and awe for the magic and diversity of life," said Helena.

“生物学不仅是理性的学科，它也充满温度。”在十一年级，Helena与同学们在华南农业大学导师的指导下，关注稻田福寿螺的危害问题。

从课题的初步探讨、稻田实地实验、样本筛选，到实验数据的分析，Helena与华农导师紧密合作，共同完成了以“有机栽培对稻田土壤环境及益生菌影响”为主题的英文学术论文。

"Biology is not only a rational subject, it is also full of warmth." In Grade 11, with the guidance of mentors from South China Agricultural University, Helena and her classmates concentrated on the harmful effects of rice field snails and conducted further research. From the exploration of the initial topic, field experiments in rice paddies, sample selection, to the analysis of experimental data, Helena collaborated closely with mentors from South China Agricultural University, jointly completing an academic paper in English on the topic "Effects of organic cultivation on rice paddy soil environment and probiotics”.

除了学术上的深造，Helena还在生物老师Jennifer的带领下，与不同年级的同学一起参与生物竞赛的课外拓展课程。“学校的学习氛围非常浓厚，同学们积极讨论问题，对知识充满兴趣，每个人都有独特的见解和思考方式。”

In addition to academic pursuits, under the guidance of Biology teacher Jennifer, Helena also participates in extracurricular extension courses for biology competitions with students from different grades. "The learning atmosphere is very strong, with students actively discussing issues, showing a keen interest in knowledge. Each person has unique insights and ways of thinking," said Helena. 

有一次，Helena与同学们讨论一个结合生物与数学的题目，涉及疫苗和遗传病计算。大家各抒己见，用不同的思路得出了答案，“这让我意识到问题可以从多个角度理解和解决，有位同学甚至运用了统计学的概念，这是我未曾想到的。”

Once, Helena and her classmates were discussing a topic that combined biology and mathematics, involving calculations related to vaccines and genetic diseases. Everyone expressed their own opinions and arrived at the final answers using different approaches. "This made me realize that problems can be understood and solved from multiple perspectives. One classmate even applied concepts from statistics, which I had never thought of," said Helena.

此前，Helena还参加了一个与生命健康领域相关的生物竞赛。尽管只有她一人对此感兴趣，但学校依然全力支持她参赛。在比赛中，她聆听了专家演讲，结识了志同道合的朋友，收获颇丰。

Previously, Helena took part in a biology competition related to the field of life and health. Even though she was the sole participant, our school still fully supported her. 

During the competition, she attended expert lectures, make the acquaintance of like-minded friends, and gained a lot from the experience.

凭借不懈努力，Helena荣获了2024年英国生物奥林匹克全球金奖（全球排名前5%）、2023英国中级生物奥林匹克全球金奖、2024年英国化学竞赛全球银奖、2024年滑铁卢数学Hypatia竞赛卓越奖（全球前25%）、以及2024年HOSA生物与健康未来领袖挑战赛全国铜奖等殊荣。

With relentless effort, Helena was honoured with several accolades in 2024, including the Global Gold Award in the British Biology Challenge (ranking in the top 5% globally), the Global Silver Award in the British Chemistry Olympiad, the Hypatia Award for Excellence in the University of Waterloo Math Contest (ranking in the top 25% globally), and the National Bronze Award in the HOSA Future Health Professionals Biomedical Debate.

在广州斐特思，她学会了更高效的学习方式。在老师的指导下，她开始注重知识点的逻辑化整理，并在思维导图中加入更多图像细节，形成完整的知识体系。

In FCG, she attained more efficient study methods. Under the guidance of her teachers, she started focusing on organizing key concepts logically and illustrating more visual details in her mind maps, thus creating a comprehensive knowledge framework.

在化学备考中，面对刷题复习的普遍方法，Helena发现这并不适合自己。她主动与老师沟通，希望按照自己的学习方法与节奏备考。老师对此非常支持，并为Helena制定了个性化的辅导方案。同时，在数学老师的帮助下，她查缺补漏，不断提升速算技巧。最终，她在生物、化学、数学等科目中取得了全A*/A的优异成绩。

During her chemistry exam preparation, Helena discovered that the common method of simply doing exercises did not suit her. 

She communicated with her teachers, hoping to prepare for exams according to her own learning methods and pace. The teachers were very supportive and tailored a personalized tutoring plan for Helena. Meanwhile, with the help of her mathematics teacher, she filled in the gaps and constantly improved her rapid calculation skills. In the end, she achieved outstanding grades of all A* and A in subjects including Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Advanced Mathematics.

在申请顶级大学的准备过程中，学校为Helena安排了一系列面试模拟课程：“面试时，老师会针对我的回答给予及时、一针见血的反馈，让我的面试表现有了很大的提升。”从最初的害羞尴尬到后来的大方自信，Helena承受了不小的心理压力：“我总听到竞争对手学业和竞赛成绩多么出色，这让我感到非常焦虑。”这时，生物Jennifer老师会与她谈心，缓解她的压力。“老师告诉我，最重要的是与自己比较，看是否有进步。”

During the preparation for applying to top universities, the school arranged a series of mock interview courses for Helena. “During the mock interviews, the teachers provided timely and insightful feedback, which greatly improved my performance in the interviews.” In the process of changing from being shy to becoming confident and poised, Helena endured significant mental pressure. "I constantly heard about how outstanding my rivals are in academics and competitions, which once made me feel extremely anxious." At this point, Biology teacher Ms. Jennifer would have sincere conversations with her, relieving her stress. "Ms. Jennifer told me that the most important thing is to compare with myself and focus on the progress."

在紧张的学习与升学过程中，Helena多次提及“松弛感”这个词。“虽然大家非常重视学习，但他们展现出的‘松弛感’让我明白，学习不是生活的唯一目标。”回想起以前的学校，Helena感到压力巨大，“每次考试甚至日常作业，我都要求自己做到最好。这给我带来了极大的压力，实际上是不健康的。”

Throughout the stressful process of studying and applying for further education, Helena frequently mentioned the word "chill". "Even though everyone values academics greatly, the sense of chill they revealed made me realize that learning is not the only purpose of life." Recalling her previous school experiences, Helena felt immense pressure. "Every test and even daily assignment, I pushed myself to be the best. This brought me great stress, which was actually unhealthy."

在广州斐特思，同学们用行动告诉她，犯错是可以接受的，重要的是不断努力、永不放弃。Helena逐渐学会了放松心态、接受不足并努力提升，“心态的转变对我至关重要，我成为了更好的自己。”

In FCG, she learned from her classmates that making mistakes is acceptable; what matters is continuous effort and never giving up. Helena gradually learned to be chill and accept her shortcomings, striving for improvement. She said, "The shift in mindset was crucial for me; I have become a better version of myself."

课余时间，Helena积极参加学校举办的语言文化节、科技节等大型活动。她不仅担任双语主持人，还与同学们共同排练了话剧《汉密尔顿》。“我还记得一句歌词‘Rise up’，每次听到都让我热血沸腾、充满动力。表演让我更好地释放压力，培养了我在公众面前的表现力。”

During her spare time, Helena actively participated in the school's Language and Cultural Festivals, STEAM Festival and other major events. Not only did she serve as a bilingual host, but she also rehearsed the play Hamilton with her classmates. "Whenever I hear the lyric Rise up, I would be filled with passion and motivation. Performing has helped me release stress better and cultivated my ability to express myself in public."

Helena really likes Su Shi's poem Ding Feng Bo

“每当我遇到困难或挑战时，这首诗都会提醒我保持冷静和初心，不被外界的风雨和压力所动摇。它让我清晰地认识自己、明确目标，保持平稳心态，坚定不移地走自己的路。”

"Whenever I face difficulties or challenges, this poem reminds me to stay calm and motivated, not to be disturbed by external storms and pressures. It helps me clearly understand myself, set goals, maintain a steady mindset, and firmly pursue my dream."
