CG IN GUANGZHOU CINDY WEE’S KEYNOTE SPEECH AT THE GUANGZHOU SCA SCHOOL’S 4TH FOUNDER’S DAY CELEBRATION IN GUANGZHOU, FRIDAY, 21 MARCH 2025

Ladies and Gentlemen,
Students,
A very good morning to all of you!
A warm congratulations to all members of Guangzhou SCA School as you celebrate the 4th Founder’s Day. Participating in SCA s Founder’s Day is especially special to me, being an alumnus of the Hwa Chong Family of Schools in Singapore.
I am happy to see SCA’s vibrant student community in the heart of our bilateral China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City project. The relationship between Singapore and China has long been one of deep mutual respect and collaboration, built upon our close cultural ties and all-rounded partnership. Institutions like SCA play a crucial role in strengthening our people-to-people connections through the fostering of relationships, the exchange of ideas, and the cultivation of values that transcend borders.
As an affiliate of the Hwa Chong Family of Schools in Singapore, SCA offers education enriched by both our cultural heritage, carries forward a deep commitment to academic excellence, and fosters a community dedicated to developing future leaders. The Founder’s Day theme of “Integrity and Humility” therefore resonates deeply, not only as core values of SCA but as timeless principles that guide us in life, leadership, and the pursuit of excellence.
When I visited the SCA campus and interacted with students earlier this month, it is clear to me that the school has invested in you and prepare you for the future. This is especially important in today’s fast-changing and very uncertain world.
New technologies like Artificial Intelligence and robotics are creating new jobs and exciting possibilities, but they are also reshaping industries and affecting existing jobs. Our traditional mode of getting information is also being challenged, including our judgement in identifying correct information in the internet world.
The international landscape is evolving. We cannot tell exactly how things will play out. But we can be sure that character building is integral in your schooling years. AI may dominate industries, automate tasks, and even reshape economies, but it cannot replicate the human qualities of integrity and humility. These values are what make us truly human and what will set you apart as leaders of tomorrow.
Integrity is the cornerstone of trust. It means doing the right thing, even when no one is watching. In a world where information spreads rapidly and decisions are scrutinised, integrity ensures that your actions align with your principles. It is the foundation of leadership and the key to earning the respect and trust of others.
Humility, on the other hand, is the quality that keeps us grounded. It reminds us that no matter how much we achieve, there is always more to learn. Humility allows us to listen, to collaborate, and to grow. In an era where knowledge is constantly evolving, humility is what will enable you to adapt, innovate, and lead with empathy. Together, integrity and humility form the bedrock of character. They are not just values to aspire to; they are qualities to live by. And in a world where AI may outperform us in many areas, it is our character that will define our humanity and our leadership.
In conclusion, as you celebrate the past four years, I hope you look to the future with hope and determination. SCA has already made commendable achievements, but the journey is far from over.
To SCA students: You are the future leaders of a world that will continue to evolve in ways you cannot yet imagine. The future does not belong to those who merely adapt to technology – it belongs to those who uphold strong values in the face of rapid change. These are the values that will earn you respect, open doors to meaningful opportunities, and empower you to create a lasting impact on the world.
Congratulations to SCA on your 4th year milestone, and may you hold fast to your Mission of nurturing pillars of the world and pioneers of tomorrow. I trust that the years ahead be even more remarkable!

家长们、老师们，
女士们和先生们，
亲爱的同学们：
大家早上好！
首先，在广州新侨学校迎来四周年校庆之际，我谨向全体师生致以热烈的祝贺！作为新加坡华中大家庭的校友，今天能够参与华中联属学校的校庆庆典，对我而言意义非凡。
我欣喜地看到，在中新广州知识城的核心区域，新侨学校培育出充满活力的学子们在茁壮成长。新中两国始终秉持着深厚的互信与合作关系，这种关系根植于两国紧密的文化纽带与全方位的伙伴关系。像新侨学校这样的学府，在加强两国人民之间的联系、促进人文交流、思想碰撞与超越国界的价值观培养方面，扮演着至关重要的角色。
作为新加坡南洋华侨中学的联属学校，新侨学校既传承两国不同文化精髓，又秉承追求卓越的教育理念，致力于培养未来的领导者。因此，今年校庆所强调的主题——“厚德载物”（Integrity and Humility）令人深思，这不仅体现了贵校的的核心价值观，更是指引我们人生道路、领导实践与追求卓越的恒久准则。
在本月初，我走访了新侨校园并与学生们进行了深入交流。我深切感受到，学校为你们的成长及应对未来倾注了巨大的心力。尤其在当今瞬息万变且充满不确定性的时代，这种远见尤为重要。
人工智能与机器人等新技术正在创造新的职业和无限可能，也正在重塑行业格局，冲击现有的职业领域。我们传统获取信息的方式正面临挑战，我们必须具备辨识网络信息真伪的甄别力和批判性思维，才能在纷繁信息中明辨是非。
当今世界局势风云变幻，我们无法准确预测世界的未来走向，但可以确定的是，在你们求学的过程中，品格培养才是根本。人工智能也许能主导产业自动化，带来经济变革，但它无法复制人类核心品质“正直”与“谦逊”的光辉。正是这些可贵的价值观，让我们成为真正的人，也将使你们在未来脱颖而出，成为卓越的领导者。
“正直”，是信任的基石。它意味着即使无人注视，也始终坚持做正确的事情。在这个信息瞬息扩散、每一个决策都可能被放大审视的时代，“正直”能确保你们言行如一，坚守原则。这也是是领导力之根本，是赢得他人尊重与信赖的关键。
“谦逊”，则让我们保持脚踏实地的态度。它提醒我们：无论取得多大的成就，总还有更多可以学习和改进的空间。谦逊让我们虚怀若谷，更愿意倾听、合作与成长。在这个知识迭代加速的时代，谦逊赋予我们与时俱进、不断创新、并以同理心引领他人的能力。
“正直与谦逊”，共同构筑了人格的底色。它们不仅是值得追求的价值观，更应成为你们日常行为的准则。人工智能可能会在许多方面超越我们的职能，但定义我们人性与领导力的正是这些可贵的品格。
最后，值此与大家共庆新侨立校四周年之际，我希望你们继续带着希望与信念坚定迈向未来。新侨学校已然取得许多令人瞩目的成就，但这段旅程仍远未结束。
我想对新侨学子们说：你们必将成为这个不断变革的世界的未来领袖。未来并不属于那些仅仅适应科技变化浪潮的人，而是属于那些在巨变之中依然坚守价值观的人。正是这些价值观，将为你们赢得尊重，开启通往有富有意义的机遇的大门，并赋予你们改变世界的力量。
再次祝贺新侨学校迎来第四个重要里程碑，愿你们始终坚守“培养敢为人先的栋梁之才”的使命，创造更为辉煌的未来！
