This week in Grade 1, students demonstrated their enthusiasm for numerical exploration by learning how to read and interpret line graphs and Venn diagrams. Through hands-on activities, they practised gathering and analysing data in meaningful ways. In Literacy, children explored homophones and compound words, while in Unit of Inquiry, they examined different types of beehives, comparing those of honey bees and wasps.

This week in Grade 2, we learned about fractions in Math. We explored equivalent fractions and how to find a fraction of a number. The students worked through different examples and solved math problems.

As the Grade 3 students continued their exploration of decimals, they focussed on their real-world application in money. By setting up a classroom economy, they learned to identify various denominations and developed essential skills in money management. This hands-on experience not only made learning fun but also instilled a sense of respect for the value of money.

Recently, Grade 4 students have been learning how to calculate the areas and perimeters of 2D shapes. This week, students have been using their knowledge to help them solve area and perimeter problems for composite rectilinear shapes.

This week, Grade 5 students looked at solving and calculating decimals. Students engaged in various exercises to understand decimal addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. We also discussed real-world applications of decimals, such as in budgeting and measurement conversions.

Students in Grade 6 learnt how to use the properties of operations, such as the distributive, associative, and commutative properties, to simplify and solve algebraic equations efficiently. By understanding these properties, students can manipulate equations confidently to find unknown values.

In Grade 6B, students engaged in exciting mathematical explorations as they expanded their knowledge of linear sequences and worked on pairs of unknowns by calculating equations with variables. This week’s activities not only strengthened their numerical skills but also encouraged critical thinking and problem-solving in a collaborative environment.

This unit blended literature and music, enhancing students' rhythm and solfege skills through storytelling and song. They enjoyed connecting words to melodies, improving pitch and coordination. Although some needed reinforcement in matching syllables to beats, integrating literacy deepened students’ musical understanding.

This week, students from Grades 3 to 6 actively participated in a successful ICT touch typing competition, showcasing their growing accuracy and speed through fun and engaging challenges. The excitement around the event sparked motivation across all grade levels, encouraging students to continue improving their typing skills even after the competition, including Grades 1 and 2. This experience not only strengthened their digital literacy but also supported their overall learning by enhancing their ability to express ideas clearly and efficiently through writing.

This week, Grade 4 students embarked on a journey through classical Chinese literature, exploring the wisdom of ancient times. They studied two classical texts, immersing themselves in stories of personal growth. They learned about Che Yin's diligent study and the old woman's perseverance in grinding an iron rod into a needle, which inspired Li Bai. These stories enriched their understanding of classical Chinese and inspired them to reflect on their own growth and perseverance.

The text ‘The Flower Clock’ provides a detailed introduction to the phenomenon of different flowers blooming at different times. During the learning process, students become aware of the blooming times of various flowers. For example: At 4 a.m., the morning glory blows its purple trumpet. Around 5 a.m., the beautiful rose blooms with a smile. This text not only introduces the blooming times of flowers but also reveals the reasons for the differences in blooming times, such as temperature, humidity, light exposure, and the activity times of insects. Through numerical exploration, students can gain a deeper understanding of the scientific principles behind flower blooming.

This week, Grade 5 and Grade 6 students explored the different impacts of various eating habits on the body under the theme "Healthy Eating Habits." They used data comparisons to visually understand how good eating habits can shape a healthy body every day. Meanwhile, Grade 3 and Grade 4 study climate, learning to recognize differences in temperature and precipitation across different latitudes through numerical data.

The Reading & Art Club UP students used ‘roll-a-dice’ writing prompts to determine the details of the stories they created. The number on the dice rolled determined which character(s), setting and problem would appear in their original writing pieces. The Lower Primary students read about the enchanted world of “The Numberleys” and imagined a world where no alphabet existed - only numbers.

This week, Grade 1 students explored the world of numbers by learning vertical subtraction within 100. They engaged deeply with the concepts, discovering patterns and connections as they practiced step-by-step calculations. Through solving practical problems, they applied their knowledge, enhancing their numerical skills and problem-solving abilities. Their curiosity and confidence grew as they ventured into new mathematical challenges.

This week, Grade 6 are using direct proportion and inverse proportion to solve various problems. Numerical exploration encourages us to discover mathematical laws and methods of solving problems through the observation, calculation, and analysis of specific numbers. When studying the direct proportion relationship among distance, speed, and time, we can conduct numerical exploration by listing different speeds and corresponding times, calculating the distances, so as to visually see how the distance changes with time when the speed is fixed. Similarly, in the inverse proportion relationship, taking the total production, work efficiency, and working time as an example, through numerical exploration, we try different work efficiencies and calculate the required working time to verify the inverse proportion characteristic that the product is constant. Numerical exploration provides specific data support and practical approaches for us to understand and apply direct proportion and inverse proportion to solve problems, enabling us to master these two mathematical relationships more deeply and clearly, and flexibly use them to overcome various practical problems.

This week, our Lower Primary students embarked on an exciting orienteering adventure during their PE lessons!  In one engaging session, they solved a sudoku puzzle as a team to unlock the next challenge—showcasing both their collaborative spirit and budding problem-solving skills.  Throughout the activity, their enthusiasm, teamwork, and logical thinking shone brightly.
