This week in Grade 1, students demonstrated their enthusiasm for numerical exploration by learning how to read and interpret line graphs and Venn diagrams. Through hands-on activities, they practised gathering and analysing data in meaningful ways. In Literacy, children explored homophones and compound words, while in Unit of Inquiry, they examined different types of beehives, comparing those of honey bees and wasps.

This week, Grade 4 students embarked on a journey through classical Chinese literature, exploring the wisdom of ancient times. They studied two classical texts, immersing themselves in stories of personal growth. They learned about Che Yin's diligent study and the old woman's perseverance in grinding an iron rod into a needle, which inspired Li Bai. These stories enriched their understanding of classical Chinese and inspired them to reflect on their own growth and perseverance.


The text ‘The Flower Clock’ provides a detailed introduction to the phenomenon of different flowers blooming at different times. During the learning process, students become aware of the blooming times of various flowers. For example: At 4 a.m., the morning glory blows its purple trumpet. Around 5 a.m., the beautiful rose blooms with a smile. This text not only introduces the blooming times of flowers but also reveals the reasons for the differences in blooming times, such as temperature, humidity, light exposure, and the activity times of insects. Through numerical exploration, students can gain a deeper understanding of the scientific principles behind flower blooming.

They used data comparisons to visually understand how good eating habits can shape a healthy body every day. Meanwhile, Grade 3 and Grade 4 study climate, learning to recognize differences in temperature and precipitation across different latitudes through numerical data.

The Reading & Art Club UP students used ‘roll-a-dice’ writing prompts to determine the details of the stories they created. The number on the dice rolled determined which character(s), setting and problem would appear in their original writing pieces. The Lower Primary students read about the enchanted world of “The Numberleys” and imagined a world where no alphabet existed - only numbers.

Chinese Maths

This week, Grade 1 students explored the world of numbers by learning vertical subtraction within 100. They engaged deeply with the concepts, discovering patterns and connections as they practiced step-by-step calculations. Through solving practical problems, they applied their knowledge, enhancing their numerical skills and problem-solving abilities. Their curiosity and confidence grew as they ventured into new mathematical challenges.


This week, Grade 6 are using direct proportion and inverse proportion to solve various problems. Numerical exploration encourages us to discover mathematical laws and methods of solving problems through the observation, calculation, and analysis of specific numbers. When studying the direct proportion relationship among distance, speed, and time, we can conduct numerical exploration by listing different speeds and corresponding times, calculating the distances, so as to visually see how the distance changes with time when the speed is fixed. Similarly, in the inverse proportion relationship, taking the total production, work efficiency, and working time as an example, through numerical exploration, we try different work efficiencies and calculate the required working time to verify the inverse proportion characteristic that the product is constant. Numerical exploration provides specific data support and practical approaches for us to understand and apply direct proportion and inverse proportion to solve problems, enabling us to master these two mathematical relationships more deeply and clearly, and flexibly use them to overcome various practical problems.
